Student Attendance
The Department of Education student attendance policy requires parents/carers to provide an explanation when their child is not in school. It is important to assist the child’s achievement and learning by making regular school attendance a priority in their child’s life.
The School Education Act 1999 defines health, religious and cultural observances as reasonable causes for a school absence and the absence would be recorded as ‘authorised’ by the Principal. We understand that there are times when students have acceptable reasons for being away from school. In this case, it is important that parents/carers notify the school to ensure their attendance records are kept up-to-date and provide acceptable reason(s) for the child’s absence(s).
South Newman Primary School has established a well-aligned and positive learning environment with strong parent and community partnerships. With a focus to engage and retain students in school programs, parents/guardians are invited to assist and participate in lessons and are welcomed as partners in their child’s learning.
