PEAC (Primary Extension And Challenge)
PEAC is a course that is offered to students who have been identified requiring extension beyond the normal depth of usual classroom extension courses. The courses are highly motivating, and provide learning experiences in a supportive environment where students can work with like-minded peers.
At South Newman Primary School, PEAC is offered to selct juniour and upper students by qualified staff. The aim is to enrich and challenge the students.
Most students enter PEAC at the end of Year Four after completing two types of PEAC placement tests. Students who are new to the school in future years and show potential (but have not been tested), may by nominated by the classroom teacher for a specific course.
Assessment for the students is ongoing, and a report is provided to the students at the end of each course. This report addressed the particular learning strands and specific tasks that were covered during each course, as well as general areas such as task commitment, thinking skills, social skills and attitude.
