Boys in Education
South Newman Primary School has been involved in the “Boys in Education”, a federal governmant initiative.
Research has shown that while many boys in Australian schools are doing well, boys are not achieving as well as girls across a range of educational and social measures. To asisst in addressing these concerns, the programmes focus on strategies that are geared towards the styles of learning that boys strive under.
Whilst the emphasis is on using strong teaching strategies which help to focus boys in the classroom, these same strategies are also very effective for girls within the classroom. The end result is helping teachers to recognise that there are differences between boys and girls, and the ways they learn best.
